Green to Go
One sleepy Oregon town received some pretty exciting news last week causing a bit of stir nationwide. The coastal city of Gold Beach is set to become the first place in the U.S. to own their very own drive-thru dispensary. Opening? That’s right, 4/20. (April 20th)
Green Life Oregon revealed plans to open the nation’s first ever (legal) cannabis drive thru last weekend. The dispensary is not the first to think of a drive-thru pot spot but it’s the first to open with a state’s grace.
Purposefully located across the street from the local hospital the dispensary is hoping to curb the amount of individuals suffering from pharmaceutical dependency stating “We want to make sure people have the opportunity for natural alternatives to pain medicine.” As Oregon is one of four states with legal marijuana, the convenience of a cannabis drive-thru stands to service a much wider audience. A fact of which the city is aware and hopes to benefit from in the form of tourist revenue.
“(The) plans for expansion and other amenities can help Gold Beach and the southwestern coast become a destination for those interested in the new green tourism we are fortunate to be a part of.” – Julie Schmelzer, Curry County Economic Development Director
A drive thru dispensary is definitely a good start when you’re looking for tourists but perhaps a white castle next door might bring a few more people out to stay.
