Voters in Portland, Maine, voted to legalize marijuana, becoming the first state on the east coast to do so. Although the passed law does not allow purchase or sale of recreational marijuana, it still becomes a great step in legalizing cannabis throughout the US!
“Most Portlanders, like most Americans, are fed up with our nation’s failed marijuana prohibition laws,” said David Boyer of the Marijuana Policy Project, a marijuana advocacy group. “We applaud Portland voters for adopting a smarter marijuana policy, and we look forward to working with city officials to ensure it is implemented.”
Voters passed the law with an overwhelming 67% of the vote, just showing that legalization reform is underway, not just in Portland, Maine, but everywhere in the US.
